What made you become the photographer you are today?
I’ve never been afraid of hard work or taking a cringe-worthy risk. My journey began around 8 years ago. I have always been massively obsessed with simplicity in its many forms – from the way I dress, music I enjoy and how I keep my home to the subjects I now photograph. So naturally, when I picked up a camera, I was looking for a way to capture the subject’s beauty in a simplistic yet striking way. Always looking to improve, I would constantly shoot everything around me that caught my eye. I would pour over YouTube videos trying to pick up tips and suggestions to try the next time I was out on location or in the studio. I find myself obsessed with expanding my knowledge of light and capturing my vision daily.
What does the X System camera do for your photography?
The X System allows me to capture the subject and scene the way I see it in person. The way it renders colors is very natural yet vibrant which is very important to me. Whenever I import the images I’m always blown away by the detail and the way the camera seems to almost capture the air in the environment. The separation of the subjects in the image without needing to completely blur or bokeh the background is also very special to me. It allows the viewer to really feel as if they are there at the moment of capture. The portability is great for when I want the best image quality on the go and the weight and lack of bulk is perfect for the studio.
Tell us the story behind how you created your image.
For this series we really wanted to have a minimal, mono theme where Vivica would really stand out but also be in harmony with the colors selected. For light, I wanted a daylight look with a little more pop, so I created more of a shaded daylight with strobes and v-flats. It was also important to have a team who shared in the same vision, so the color of lipstick that the makeup artist used and the clothing we chose all came together perfectly in the end. Just enough texture and color harmony to keep it simple yet stunning.
